Step 2: Hunt for Keywords That Change Everything

  2. Airway — open and maintain it before anything downstream.

  • Watch for two opposite answers. When two choices are exact opposites, the correct answer is frequently one of them — the writer wants you to choose between them.
  • Beware absolute language. Words like always and never are often wrong in clinical items because medicine has exceptions. (This is a tendency, not a law — do not rely on it blindly.)
  • Match specificity to the question. If the stem describes a focused problem, an overly broad answer may be wrong, and vice versa.

If you narrow it to two choices, return to the stem's keywords. The deciding word — an age, a vital sign, a priority word — usually breaks the tie.
